Lauderdale County Forestry Association 2019 Annual Meeting

Lauderdale County Forestry Association Annual Meeting was held on September 23rd, 2019. There were about 60 members in attendance to hear the speakers. Kelvin Jackson, District Conservationist, Natural Resources Conservation Services, provided some useful information on programs that the NRCS has for landowner assistance. We also got an update from Bob Harmon on Biewer Lumber’s upcoming expansion. Mississippi Forestry Association was also present to inform us of some program they offer. Finally, we all enjoyed a great meal prepared by Circle S Fish House.

As you can see from the photos, it was a great annual meeting!

Mixed Stand Management Workshop Photos

On September 12th, The Lauderdale County Forestry Association (LCFA) sponsored a Mixed-Stand Management Workshop at the East Mississippi Electric Power Association Auditorium. There were several Extension/Research Specialists from Mississippi State, Louisiana State University and Auburn University presenting. We had about 40 foresters and landowners in attendance and we enjoyed learning, fellowship and some good food!

Mixed-Stand Management Workshop – MSU Extension Service

The Lauderdale County Forestry Association (LCFA) will be sponsoring a Mixed-Stand Management Workshop on Thursday, September 12th, at the East Mississippi Electric Power Association Auditorium from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be several Extension/Research Specialists from Mississippi State, Lousiana State University and Auburn University presenting the following topics.

  • Mixed-Stand Biology, Mixed-Stand Silviculture, Economic Opportunities provided by Mixed-Stands, Mixed-Stand Risk Avoidance.
  • Mixed-Stands = Stands managed equally for pines and hardwoods.

The cost for the workshop is $15. Please call the Extension Office at 601-482-9764 by Friday, September 6th to reserve your spot. Professionals will receive 3 Hours of Category A BORF CFEs for the workshop.

A box lunch will be served.

Lauderdale County Forestry Association Annual Meeting – September 23rd, 2019

It is time of the year again for our Lauderdale County Forestry Association Annual Meeting!

It will be held Monday, September 23rd, at the East Mississippi Electric Power Association Auditorium at 6:30 p.m.

The speaker for the program will be Kelvin Jackson, District Conservationist, Natural Resources Conservation Services. He will speak on Environmental Quality Incentives, Longleaf Incentives and Forestry Management Plan programs that are available through his office. Bo Harmon with Beiwer Lumber will speak on their expansion and Dave Godwin with Mississippi Forestry Association will also be at the meeting. Marc Measells, Extension Associate, Mississippi State University, will be conducting his annual survey.

Membership dues are payable now. They are $20 per person and include your meal at the annual membership meeting.

Please call the Lauderdale County Extension Office at 601-482-9754, by September 18th, so we will know how many meals to prepare.

2019 LCFA Shooting Sports Benefit & Scholarship Award

On May 17, LCFA sponsored a skeet shoot at Camp Binachi Shooting Sports benefiting the Betty M Lacy scholarship fund. We had 82 shooters and multiple station sponsors!

Thanks to Circle S Ranch Fish House for providing the delicious lunch.

Congratulations to Payton Mayatt, our $1000.00 scholarship recipient!

He will be attending EMCC this fall majoring in Forestry and also playing baseball.
